Caramel Apple Crumble Bars

Ingredients

  • 4 cups FLAV-R-PAC Diced Apples
  • 1 ½ cups Unsalted Butter
  • ½ cup 4 tbsp Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 ½ cups 4 tbsp All Purpose Flour
  • 1 ¼ tsp Cinnamon ground
  • ½ tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats
  • ¾ cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 1 cup Caramel Sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 300° F. Line the bottom and sides of a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving enough overhang on all sides. Set aside.
  • Make the crust: Melt 1 cup of butter. Combine with ½ cup granulated sugar, vanilla, and salt in a medium bowl. Add 2 cups flour until combined. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Make the apple filling: Combine FLAV-R-PAC® Fruit Favorites Apple Cubes, 4 tablespoons of all purpose flour, 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl. Set aside.
  • Make the streusel: Combine oats, brown sugar, remaining ¼ teaspoon cinnamon, and remaining ½ cup flour together in a medium bowl. Cut in ½ cup butter (chilled) with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  • To assemble: Remove crust from the oven, and turn the oven up to 350° F. Evenly layer the apples on top of the warm crust. Sprinkle the apple layer with streusel and bake for 30 – 35 minutes or until the streusel is golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 20 minutes at room temperature.
  • Cut into 16 smaller bars. Once cut, drizzle caramel sauce on top of each.
